VINTAGE & VITICULTURE
Drea's Small Batch Wines are crafted in Niagara-on-the-Lake by Andrea Kaiser, daughter of world renowned winemaker Karl J. Kaiser who co-founded Inniskillin Wines. As a visionary pioneer, his contributions to modern Canadian winemaking cannot be understated. She closely follows the tenants of her father's winemaking philosophies with a focus on natural fruit flavours and aromas, making bone dry wines that are well balanced with a bright acidity. The wines in her collection are an expression of his legacy and are dedicated to her father, who affectionately called her 'Drea'. The fruit for her small batch of Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Watson Farms, a second generation grower, who's father was a pioneer in growing premium wine grapes for her father. The vines were planted in 1982 and are some of the oldest in Canada.
WINEMAKER’S NOTES
Drea selected this varietal for her first release as after retiring, her father would make a special 'batch' of Sauvignon Blanc for her in his home cellar. He know this was her favourite, so it seemed a fitting tribute to launch her own Sauvignon Blanc in his memory. Her Sauvignon Blanc is crafted only in stainless steel with low intervention, so that the natural fruit flavours of the wine varietal speak first and is certified sustainable.
TASTING NOTES
The aromas and flavours are bright and fresh with classic gooseberry notes on the nose and palate. This white wine is bone dry with a radiant acidity tempered by a pleasing minerality. Drea suggests pairing with seafood, especially fresh shucked oysters, or her family favourite: pork schnitzel served with a fresh lemon wedge and warm potato salad.
