2016 will go down as one of the hottest, driest of seasons. Canopy management was very important to make sure fruit did not get sunburned and aromatic wines maintained fresh aromas and acidity. Another important factor this year was the ability to irrigate at crucial development stages of the vine which Reif Estate is capable of. Look for great reds and well-balanced fruity whites.
Vines were planted in 2005 but this is the first single varietal released. Fruit was nicely balance and cool fermented and aged in older French barriques for 6 months to add a light tannic structure.
This wine has aromas of delicate honey with herbaceous notes followed by soft fruit forward flavours with soft oaky notes. This wine has nice a straw colour and a soft finish. Try this wine fresh shell fish or chicken satays and spring vegetables such as asparagus and peas.
