Gamay Cabernet Merlot 2021
VQA Niagara Peninsula | 750ml
Vintage & Viticulture
Plants came out of dormancy early in spring, leading to vines getting a jump start on the season. There was an optimism in late-August that the crop would match, if not exceed, that of the previous year. But a warm and wet September caused a delay in grapes maturing and shortened an already challenging harvest.
Winemaker’s Notes
Wines were made individually and the final blend was crafted after wines completed malolactic fermentation. The fermentation and aging was done in large stainless steel vats and this was done to allow the fruit components to remain at the forefront of this wine. The blend consists of 50% Gamay Noir, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot.
Tasting Notes
A very fruit forward Cabernet with soft ripe tannins gives us a medium body food friendly wine. The aromas are rich with layers of red and black berry fruit. On the palate, raspberries, cherries, sweet black berry and touch of cassis with subtle spice notes. Goes great with pasta dishes, lasagna, hamburgers and grilled foods.
