Andrea (Drea) Kaiser selected Sauvignon Blanc as her first grape varietal as it was the same grape her father used to make wine each year at home, for her and her mother, after his retirement from Inniskillin Wines. Her father Karl was co-founder and winemaker and would have loved the 2017 vintage which was ideal for the production of fresh, bright, and food-friendly wines.
This wine was crafted in memory of winemaker Karl J. Kaiser who affectionately called his daughter 'Drea'. Andrea (Drea) Kaiser has worked at Reif Estate Winery for almost twenty years as Director of Marketing and launched her collection with the help of the Reif team, including owner Klaus W. Reif, Winemaker Roberto DiDomenico, and Assistant Winemaker Fernando Morales.
Dry and fresh with a bright acidity and classic notes of gooseberry on the nose and palate.
"I’m not sure how many people know that Ontario winemaking icon Karl Kaiser loved Sauvignon Blanc, that’s one bit of information that his daughter, Andrea (Drea), imparted when she created this love letter to her departed father, with the help of the folks at Reif. This inaugural vintage hits the mark with its mac apple notes, gooseberry and citrus, plus the grapefruit rind finish loaded with fresh acidity and intensity … what I did find super interesting is that after an hour open the wine developed some banana skin nuances in the aroma department, now that’s a cool trick – on the other hand, keeping this wine around for an hour once open is also a feat all its own.
