2018 came in with some unusually and at times brutally cold weather. By April/May the weather normalized and June gave us plenty of rain. The growing season gave us hope with sunny warm weather which ran into harvest time. This allowed us to get good maturation of fruit and the silver lining of the cold winter, less fruit, which meant higher quality.
All fruit used in this wine were hand harvested selecting some of the ripest cleanest fruit on the farm. Grapes were harvested from our oldest block planted in 1989. The grapes were hand harvested and kiln-dried for 14 days. After crushing the grapes fermented for
16 days and then pressed. The wine aged for 2 years in French and Hungarian Oak.
Deep coloured Appassimento-style wine. This wine has complex aromas of spiced oak and black fruit. The flavours of currant, plum and spice give the wine a long full-bodied finish. Pair with roast leg of lamb, filet mignon with mushrooms and strong cheeses like aged cheddar and blues.
