Cabernet Merlot 2021
VQA Niagara Peninsula | 750ml
Vintage & Viticulture
Plants came out of dormancy early in spring, leading to vines getting a jump start on the season. There was an optimism in late-August that the crop would match, if not exceed, that of the previous year. But a warm and wet September caused a delay in grapes maturing and shortened an already challenging harvest.
Winemaker’s Notes
The fermentation and aging was done in large stainless steel vats while a portion was aged in older barriques for 4 months. This vintage is a blend of 37% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Cabernet Franc.
Tasting Notes
Fruit and leather on the nose with flavours of raspberry, plum and mulberry grounded with blackberry and cassis on the palate. A medium bodied wine finishing with a fresh acidity, dark fruit and a touch of Niagara River earthiness. From Italian style pastas to grilled meats. For the vegetarian, wonderful with grilled vegetables, pizza or pepper and onion stuffed portabellos.
